Recent details have emerged regarding the tragic passing of esteemed director Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner, whose remains were located at their Brentwood, Los Angeles home on Sunday.

The Alarm

According to a report quoting a person close to the family, a practitioner arriving for an appointment was the first to notice something was wrong after being unable to gain access the home. The therapist then reached out to the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives in the vicinity.

After gaining access to the home, Romy came upon her father's body. Reports state she then fled the house in anguish, unaware at that moment that her mother's body was also present. Another individual who had gone with her promptly called 911. Following this, first responders found Michele Singer Reiner's body.

Legal Developments

Law enforcement have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with the charges of murder in the first degree, as well as the use of a dangerous weapon, reportedly a knife. He is now in custody and denied bail.

Clarifications

The anonymous source also disputed several previously reported details. The source indicated that while Romy Reiner informed emergency responders that her brother Nick lived in a detached unit on the property, she did not identify him as a suspect at that juncture.

Additionally pushed back against widely reported notions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been unusually "concerned" about Nick's actions in the weeks leading up to the incident. Instead the family was "used to working through [Nick's] problems together."

This correction applies to accounts of alleged "erratic" conduct by Nick at a event thrown by Conan O'Brien on the night before the bodies were found. While the source stated they were unable to confirm whether Rob had "rebuked" his son at the party, they said that claims of a "blow-up" between the two were inaccurate.

Investigation Details

According to law enforcement officials, the medical examiner had not yet established as of Tuesday whether the Reiners died Saturday night or on Sunday. Preliminary accounts suggested the condition of their bodies implied they had been dead for some hours.

Nick Reiner was apprehended at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the neighbourhood of Exposition Park, about 15 miles from the family home. He was due to have a hearing on Tuesday, but his attorney, Alan Jackson, said his client had a medical issue and would be unable to attend until Wednesday at the earliest.
