The Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Showdown With defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros winning the championship in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their initial Fall Classic since the 1993 season by beating the Mariners in the final Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.

Trailing three runs to one, outfielder George Springer delivered a three-run blast in the seventh, leading the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series triumph in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are the reigning title, in the forthcoming World Series.

"I'm just so happy for everyone here, the city, Canada," said Springer, a star of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 championship. "It's truly an amazing experience."

Springer has now hit twenty-three playoff homers, placing him third in history trailing only Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).

"There's probably not anyone else anywhere that I'd choose in that spot except for George Springer with his October magic," remarked Schneider.

Seattle, who had led the early in the series, remain the sole team yet to make an appearance in a World Series.

Wilson commented "without a doubt that it's going to sting" after his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but applauded their efforts throughout the year.

"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we ended up on the wrong side of the series," he remarked.

Toronto's team won the title on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and will host the Los Angeles in the opener on this Friday.
