The former Liverpool manager says a return to manage Liverpool is conceivable.
The German coach, who left Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that rejoining the club remains a possibility. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful near-decade reign featuring continental glory and the Reds’ first league title in 30 years, has since taken on positions overseeing worldwide football for Red Bull and as an advisor to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the Premier League under Arne Slot, though countless followers who revere Klopp would embrace the possibility that he might come back one day. During an extensive chat, he told the podcast host: “I said I refuse to lead a different club in England. Therefore if then it’s Liverpool...yeah. In theory, it could happen.”
“Being 58, that means I could make the decision in a few years, who knows. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. Fortunately, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Pressed on the specific conditions would have to unfold to draw him back to the touchline, Klopp admitted he feels no immediate pull for a comeback. “I don’t even know exactly, My present work fulfills me,” he stated. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing under bad weather for lengthy sessions; No need for press conferences repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews weekly.
“I don’t miss the dressing room per se, however, dining out with the players having a nice chat, I appreciate that. Success was frequent so there was often great spirits at the club. Remaining with me is Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled as an instance.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly of the current boss, crediting him for the adjustments that took the title last campaign. They've been defeated four consecutive matches across various tournaments following significant transfers, but he rubbished the suggestion it could be a slump.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker like Florian Wirtz, you will all eat your words if spoken against. A remarkable prospect. The French striker, superb talent. It’s a really good well-judged squad. Fans shouldn't fret regarding the Reds, they'll bounce back.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of Diogo Jota, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, along with the consequences for the team. The Portugal international died tragically in a road accident together with his sibling this past summer.
“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? It goes beyond his footballing ability, it’s the guy he was. I can’t imagine the team environment absent his presence. Putting it into words is tough about it. A profound tragedy for all the boys too. Not a single person will ever use it for poor performances but it is the situation. Being in that space where he was omnipresent. Dealing with that individually is not easy. Unbearable.”
