This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life without fear.”
The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people shouting “six seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently declared “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A New Life
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and based in heritage that unite the community. Annually, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
